Namibia has been urged to uphold consistent ethical and moral values in its international relations endeavours to avoid unintended consequences.

This advice comes as Namibia declares its support for South Africa’s genocide lawsuit against Israel, which commenced its hearing at the International Criminal Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Netherlands yesterday.

While acknowledging Namibia’s historical support for the self-determination of the people of Palestine and its standing on international humanitarian law, political commentator Marius Kudumo, said it is important for the country to remain consistent and promote moral and ethical principles.

“I am saying this because when some of us were criticising the African Union for admitting Israel to have an observer status there were some people in Namibia including at the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation who criticised us and implied that Namibia has a good relationship with Israel,” he explained.

He added: “It is normal but I think we need to be careful and be consistent because we are not very clear at the moment. Not that we hate the state but we hate the behaviour of the state in international relations”.
