The recently concluded Global SMART User Conference in Windhoek from March 10-14 saw representatives from various nations gather to understand the unique introduction of these technologies.

The SMART acronym stands for the Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool, which is used globally in some of the world’s most protected and fragile ecosystems for resource and animal life preservation.

Romeo Muynuda of the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT) stated that Namibia has been using the SMART platform since 2016, initially in a pilot capacity in the Etosha National Park before expanding to the Mudumu National Park in 2019.
