Northern taxi drivers have expressed disappointment in the latest national budget, stating that it overlooks the transportation industry and fails to address the challenges posed by rising fuel costs.

Shivolo Mathews, their spokesperson, called for either an increase in taxi fares or more subsidies to alleviate the financial strain on drivers.

Mathews emphasised that taxis play a crucial role in the economy by providing mobility to people from all walks of life, yet the budget fails to recognise their contribution.

He urged the government, through the Ministry of Works and Transport, to consider subsidising the taxi industry to mitigate the impact of rising operational costs.
