UNPACKING THE DAY WITH MIKE (20 JULY 2026)
Every year, about 11,000 new shacks are built in Namibia. This is a clear sign that the
country’s housing shortage is getting worse. More people are moving to towns and cities
looking for work and better opportunities, but many cannot afford to buy or rent formal
houses because prices are too high. As a result, more families are forced to live in
informal settlements.
Namibia should criminalise the refusal to act on Anti-Corruption Commission findings,
outgoing Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Director General Paulus Noa is calling for a
legal amendment to make it punishable for accounting officers and senior officials to
ignore or fail to act on the commission’s recommendations.
