More than 200 Namibian students accepted into medical programmes abroad have been rejected by NSFAF. The reason: medicine is “not on the priority list.” Meanwhile, Otjiwarongo State Hospital has 8 doctors for 40 posts. Namibia has only one public oncologist. And in Rundu, 300 learners have been out of school since January because of a toilet. Behind that failure stands a Ministry of Works that has failed to maintain state infrastructure for decades — government buildings are “rotting,” inspectors have become “salary collectors,” and contractors are paid for rotten material. One question: who is the system actually working for?
