UNPACKING THE DAY WITH FRANS (14 AUGUST 2026)
The housing dedlock in Namibia.
1.The economist Dr Martin Mwinga of First Capital Namibia says that for the housing dedlock to be solved in Namibia the government will need to spend aroud 45 billion. The question then is: can everyone in Namibia afford a house? when we say: “affordable housing” what do we really mean? who determines what low income is and is not?
2. The hambukushu traditional authority claims Bwabwata, Kavang region claims Bwabwata, Zambezi region claims Bwabwata, to whom does Bwabwata belongs and how do we determine belonging, is it geographically, administratively, or is it by vertue of traditional authority durisdiction? It remains to be seen how the government will handle the issue of Bwabwata, given the fact that James Sankwasa who is the line minister hailing from the Zambezi region, which also lays claims over the area.
