The Spillover Effect of Anti-immigrant Protests in South Africa
More than 178,000 African immigrants have left South Africa in recent months, spurred by a crackdown on undocumented migration and anti-immigration protests that have led many to leave, citing fears of attacks.The Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers Union estimates that 15% of Newcastle’s 15,000-strong textile workforce has left amidst the protests.
