Some residents in Katutura want President Hage Geingob to intervene in a standoff between them and the Windhoek Municipality over a debt collector they claim was a burden on their financial well-being.
The municipality recently appointed RedForce Debt Management to collect over N$1,2 billion it says it is owed by for services such as water and electricity, including water consumed during the Covid-19 pandemic which was assumed to be provided for free.
The residents are now unhappy with the conduct of the debt collector, claiming that on top of the “unrealistic” estimated debt, RedFore stands to make huge profits from them.
The residents also want the municipality to write off the water and electricity bills for pensioners and individuals affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
A group calling itself the Katutura Residents Committee in June submitted a petition to the municipality pleading that the City stops the estimation of their water bills and revokes its contract with RedForce.
