The newly inaugurated 13 Communal Land Boards will wield ultimate power over communal land allocation, but they have been cautioned to prioritise the preservation of commonage in resource utilisation within communal areas.

This reminder comes from the Minister of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform, Carl Schlettwein, during the inauguration of the Communal Land Boards for the Eighth Term, spanning from March 1, 2024, to February 28, 2027.

Schlettwein emphasised that communal land practices are founded on the shared utilisation of commonly owned resources, making the safeguarding of commonage a pivotal aspect of their responsibilities.
