Digital currency will only be introduced in the country when the central bank is fully convinced that such a move will not jeopardise the security and stability of the Namibian economy.

The Central Bank’s Governor Johannes !Gawaxab reiterated this stance during the unveiling of the modified N$100 note in Luderitz, underscoring the importance of readiness and the central bank’s commitment to being prepared for its introduction when deemed appropriate.

“As the Bank of Namibia, we will only introduce a digital currency once we are firmly convinced and comfortable that it is both necessary and proportionate to fulfil our tasks in ensuring the security and stability of our currency,” stated !Gawaxab.
