Chinese ambassador Zhao Weiping says his country has not yet decided whether it intends to participate in Namibia’s green hydrogen ambitions which has attracted attention from countries in the West.
Although China has already expressed it’s in the development of Namibia’s renewable energy industry, particularly the green hydrogen, Weiping says China would participate at its own pace and views it as a gradual process rather than an “Olympic competition”.
“I don’t think it is like an Olympic game on who will be first or second to join the project. You can join anytime, when you think the conditions are right,” he said in an interview with The Villager.
About seven months ago, a Chinese administrator at the National Energy Administration of China, Zhang Jianhua, had expressed China’s interest in Namibia’s renewable energy sector during a courtesy call to President Hage Geingob.
