I-Care Health Training Institute has withdrawn its students from Windhoek health centres following the quarantining of six trainees exposed to Covid-19 cases at Katutura Intermediate Hospital and Windhoek Central Hospital.

The institute’s director Johannes George told Eagle FM Saturday that four were at Katutura Intermediate Hospital and two others were at the Central Hospital.

George said they had 140 students deployed at Katutura Intermediate Hospital, Central Hospital and clinics around Windhoek. Eighty-two others are in the northern hospitals.

In a letter addressed to the matrons of the Windhoek Central Hospital and the Katutura Intermediate Hospital, George said they were withdrawing the trainees with immediate effect.

The letter also copied to the Khomas regional health directorate is dated 14 August 2020.

George said his office had learnt of four students who had come in contact with Covid-19 suspected cases unknowingly whose tests results came out positive in two different wards.

These students, he further said, have been advised to self-quarantine for 7 days and the management will keep monitoring them closely and providing them necessary support.

As a result of the incident at Katutura Intermediate Hospital, George said I-Care management decided to temporarily withdraw its students for August 2020 to reduce crowding in the facilities and minimise the risk of Cpvid-19 exposure.

The student will resume clinical practice whenever it is deemed safe or the situation changes for better in terms of Covid-19 progression locally.

As for the clinical attachment, George said they were still consulting on how to deal with the issue.

One way, he said, is to release the students in small groups to avoid crowding.
