Namibia has seen a gradual uptick in tuberculosis (TB) cases over the past two years, elevating its position to the 11th highest TB incidence rate globally.

In 2023, the country reported 9,200 TB patients, marking an increase from 8,604 cases in 2022, representing a 6.9% rise.

Minister of Health and Social Services, Kalumbi Shangula revealed these figures during the World TB Day commemoration in Lüderitz.

Despite Namibia’s relatively small population of just over three million, it has been classified as a high TB and HIV-burdened country by the World Health Organization (WHO), with 450 cases per 100,000 population.
