The Trade Ministry yesterday gazetted regulations on  price hiking, deputy executive director Ndiitah Nghipondoka-Robiati told EagleFM this Thursday.

 

The regulations are meant to monitor and protect the consumer against price fixing during the State of Emergency period .

 

Meanwhile, the ministry has registered two formal complaints relating to price hikes off hand sanitizers.

Community members from the Mix Settlement claim nepotism and favouritism are at play in the distribution of food rations. 

 

Residents of Mix settlement, which is situated 10 kilometres north of Windhoek, said  the food bank initiative only benefits a selected group of community members who are selected by the Drought relief committee. 

 

The committee is also responsible for the distribution of the COVID-19 food rations for the area.

 

Some residents said the food rations are allegedly distributed to households that received monthly income as opposed to families where there is no form of income.

 

Meanwhile, other residents said the committee choose those from a certain tribal group to  qualify for the food parcels

The committee chairperson Johannes Palata said the lack of sufficient food parcels lead to Mix settlement inhabitants making claims of nepotism and favouritism. 

 

Today the committee distributed 270 food parcels however Palata said over 300 residents were supposed to benefit from the food rations.

In response to allegations of unfair distribution of food parcels, Windhoek Rural Constituency Councillor Penina Inga Ita calls for honesty amongst community members in order for fairness of distribution amongst the community members.

 

The Councillor’s office identified about 15 000 residents of Windhoek rural that are supposed to benefit from the food parcel distribution and thus far around 600 people benefited.

 A total of 82 pigs are reported to have died due to the African swine fever while about 297 have contracted the fever, said State Veterinarian Dr Josephat Peter at the Outapi Veterinary Office to Eagle fm.
