Regarding occupational health and safety, recent media reports indicate that several employees have been electrocuted while carrying out their duties. This is a worrying indication that workplace safety remains a serious concern, as we continue to lose valuable lives through preventable workplace accidents.
The concern is not only the occurrence of these accidents, but also whether enough is being done to prevent them from happening again.
It is therefore high time that greater emphasis is placed on occupational health and safety. Employees should be regularly trained and educated about workplace hazards, safety procedures, and what to do in the event of an emergency.
Every worker has the right to a safe working environment, and employers have a responsibility to ensure that proper safety measures are in place. Workplace safety should not only be discussed after an accident occurs; it must become a continuous priority.
