Sleeping but Expecting to Reap Where They Did Not Sow
There is a saying that has echoed through generations: you reap what you sow. It is a timeless truth, known in every culture, language, and faith. Farmers understand it, teachers repeat it, and elders remind the young about it. But in our modern world, many people seem to have forgotten this simple law of life. We live in a time when some people are sleeping, yet still expecting to reap where they did not sow.
When I speak about “sleep,” I am not referring to the kind of sleep that comes when the body rests and the mind switches off. That kind of sleep is good. It is necessary. Our bodies need rest; we need time to recharge our strength and restore our energy. A person who never sleeps will soon fall sick. So, I am not against rest.
The sleep I am talking about is different. It is a kind of mental and spiritual sleep — the sleep of a person who refuses to take responsibility, the sleep of someone who knows what needs to be done but chooses not to do it. It is the sleep of a worker who has lost passion, a student who avoids studying, or an adult who hides behind excuses instead of growing. It is the sleep of comfort, laziness, and complacency.
