The composition of President-elect Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s Cabinet remains uncertain as Swapo faces significant challenges following its diminished performance in the just ended National Assembly elections.
The ruling party secured only 51 of the 96 seats, raising questions about the makeup of the incoming administration and the direction of governance in 2025.
Key concerns include whether the President-elect will retain familiar faces or opt for a fresh slate of leaders.
The party’s reduced parliamentary presence further complicates matters, as several veteran Cabinet ministers failed to secure seats, and six others announced their retirement.
Political analyst Ben Mulongeni, speaking to Eagle FM, highlighted the challenges posed by Swapo’s reduced representation.
He pointed out that the loss of a two-thirds majority would limit the party’s ability to amend the Constitution and pass laws without support from opposition parties.
“It’s not a good thing, really. It weakens their position as a ruling party,” Mulongeni remarked.
