Namibia’s imports surged by N$3 billion, widening the country’s trade deficit by N$1 billion between December 2023 and January 2024, according to the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA).

The trade gap expanded after Namibia exported goods worth N$12 billion in January 2024, a notable 9.4% increase from N$10.9 billion recorded in December 2023.

However, this was overshadowed by a 16.3% rise in the country’s import bill for January 2024, soaring from N$11.8 billion the previous month to N$13.8 billion.

This imbalance resulted in a worsened trade deficit of N$1.8 billion compared to the N$885 million deficit recorded in December 2023.
