NAMIBIAN lions are not facing the risk of extinction and their population has reached the highest level in at least half a century.
This is according to aerial surveys conducted by the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism.
Lions are a vital part of the Big Five in southern Africa, drawing tourists from around the world to Namibia and contributing to foreign reserves and the tourism sector’s value chain.
The Ministry’s statement comes in response to claims by InkiMandt, founder of DeLHRA (Desert Lions Human Relations Aid), that only 25 Desert Adapted Lions remain, out of the 95-105 estimated by the non-profit organization in 2014.
