NAMDEB is considering the procurement of six more battery-electric buses (E-buses) over the next two years, following the introduction of Namibia’s inaugural E-bus.
The company recently announced the arrival of Namibia’s very first E-bus, signifying its commitment to reducing overall diesel and electricity consumption.
This initiative aligns with Namibia’s broader environmental efforts aimed at mitigating the adverse impacts on the environment.
The E-bus made its debut in Oranjemund on Thursday, October 5, 2023, before being unveiled to employees and the Oranjemund community during an employee event on October 14, 2023. Manufactured by King Long, the bus boasts 65 seats and is presently undergoing trial testing in Oranjemund.
According to the company, extensive preparations are underway to ensure that it meets the necessary safety and operational standards.
Namdeb’s CEO, Riaan Burger, emphasised the importance of businesses striving to become carbon neutral to contribute positively to the world.
“The E-bus is one such opportunity that contributes to creating a carbon-neutral future for Namdeb,” he stated.
