THE Bus and Taxi Association of Namibia (NABTA) is contemplating a call for an increase in bus and taxi fares in the wake of the recent surge in petrol prices.
On Wednesday, fuel prices experienced a sharp rise, with petrol prices surging by N$1.90 per litre and diesel prices climbing by N$2.40 per litre.
NABTA Secretary General, Pendapala Nakathingo, expressed concern over the escalating situation, emphasising the potential adverse impact on passengers.
The association is currently exploring two possible solutions: one is to petition the Namibian government for support or subsidies for the public transport sector, and the other is to seek a fare increase for buses and taxis.
