Cattle valued at approximately N$783,000 were stolen from Shayiwe village in Namibia’s Kavango East Region, Mukwe constituency, and driven across the border into Angola on 10 May 2025.

Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu confirmed the incident to The Villager Newspaper.

According to Kanyetu, armed suspects confronted a cattle herder at the grazing area.

Two of the suspects were reportedly armed with firearms, while another carried a traditional axe. The group drove away 87 head of cattle, forcing the herder to accompany them into Angola.

The herder, Ndara David Chakunona, was allegedly released on 11 May and managed to return to his post in Namibia, where he alerted the cattle owners.

Chakunona is currently recovering in a local hospital after being assaulted the previous Saturday by five armed men believed to be Angolan nationals.
