The affordability of fish keeps dwindling as last month’s figures have shown that the price for fish rose by 16.9% compared to the same month last year.
The largest rise is observed in dried, smoked, or salted fish and seafood (from -4.7% to 13.5%).
The Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) reported this in its latest consumer price index, in which it indicated that the country’s annual inflation rate stood at 5.7% year-on-year (y/y) in November.
Food and nonalcoholic beverages, at 1.8 percentage points, were the largest contributor to this rate.
Bottled or canned fish rose from 2.4% to 14.7%) and fresh, chilled and frozen fish (from 6.5% to 18.0%).
Meanwhile, on average, vegetable prices increased by 16.9% in November 2023 compared to 10.1 percent recorded a year ago.
