The growing resistance among individuals to participate in the ongoing population census being conducted by the Namibia Statistics Agency could be a sign of social discord and lack of unity.
This is according to RinaaniMusutua of the Basic Income Grant Coalition who added that some of the socio-economic challenges facing Namibians such as poverty and unemployment could also be a factor discouraging people from participating in the census.
Since the commencement of the counting process, the nation has witnessed a considerable number of citizens outrightly refusing to be enumerated by fieldworkers.
While many Namibians are aware of the importance of a census, they lack understanding regarding how the data to be collected and how such data will be utilised could discourage people from participating.
