The Namibia Competition Commission is investigating potential collusion among various vessel owners and operators in the Namibian fishing industry, focusing on allegations of fixing fishing quota usage fees, among other things.

The Namibia Competition Commission received information twice this year, raising concerns about possible collusion among vessel owners and operators.

The alleged collusion revolves around fixing fishing quota usage fees paid to fishing rights holders when entering quota usage agreements with the vessel owners/operators.

Access to a vessel is a prerequisite for individuals seeking fishing rights.

Many local fishing rights holders, lacking their vessels, sell their allocated fishing quotas to vessel owners and operators at a fee, as explained by the Commission.
