The Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication, and Social Welfare says it spends about N$511 million monthly to extend social grants to various citizens in the country.
These grants include Old Age Grants, Disability Grants, Orphan and Vulnerable Children Grants, Funeral Benefit Grants, Child Disability Grants, Foster Parent Grants, Maintenance Grants, and Conditional Basic Income Grants.
As of September, the total number of beneficiaries for old age, disability, and vulnerable children stood at 625,398.
Gender Equality Minister Doreen Sioka said by September 2023, the ministry had 204,370 active old age grant beneficiaries, covering 97% of eligible recipients.
Sioka revealed this information during the end of year press briefing held at State House on Monday.
Citizens aged 60 and above currently receive N$1,400 per month per beneficiary.
