The ports of Walvis Bay and Lüderitz have handled a total of 253,996 TEUs of container throughput between March 2024 and 2025 representing a substantial 33% year-on-year increase.

Marking the highest container throughput in over a decade, a surge in cargo volumes, as reported by the port authority, Namport, this week.

For the financial year ended 31 March 2025, Namport recorded a total cargo throughput of 8.42 million tons across the Ports of Walvis Bay and Lüderitz—representing a 4.8% increase from the 8.03 million tons handled in the previous year.

Namport executive for commercial, Elias Mwenyo, explained that the growth underscores the sustained strength of their operations across bulk, break-bulk, containerised, and liquid cargo segments.
