Elias Wanghede, a banana grower in the Okongo area of Ohangwena Region, is eyeing local stores as he continues to expand his banana farming operation.
This season, his banana trees have yielded impressive results. Last year, he had only 60 trees; this year, he has over 100, all bearing fruit.
“Having banana trees has been amazing for me as I continue to prosper. The good thing about banana trees is that they produce continuously, and the harvest is ongoing,” he said.
Currently, Wanghede supplies the local community of Okongo and surrounding areas, but he faces challenges with the varieties he grows. He produces Burro and Blue Gava bananas, which are not typically recommended by stores.
