‘The burden of proof of safety’ on the consumption of Genetically Modified (GMO) maize – GMO maize – turned into a major trade dispute between the two north American neighbours, Mexico and the United States of America.
Tim Wise, a researcher in the agri-food industry, observed and spoke in a virtual presentation and stakeholder engagement on what Africa can learn from Mexico’s stance and resistance on importing genetically modified food and agricultural produce from their [Mexico’s] neighbour.
Wise commented on the dispute that the Americans did not recognise the claim made by their Mexican counterparts that the maize imports were bad for Mexican consumption.
