Given Namibia’s potential for agro-processing to boost economic growth and create jobs, analysts are calling for more investment in the sector.
With an abundance of agricultural resources, experts argue that the country must prioritise investment in agro-processing to unlock long-term economic development, reduce unemployment, and reduce dependency on imported goods.
Agro-processing, which involves the transformation of raw agricultural products into consumable or market-ready goods, has been identified as a key sector to drive Namibia’s economic diversification.
However, experts say that significant investment in infrastructure, technology, and workforce development is needed to realise the sector’s full potential.
Nelao !Nateb, an economist with the Namibia Institute of Public Administration and Management (NIPAM), advocates for greater attention to the agro-processing sector as a crucial pillar of Namibia’s economic future.
