Renewable energy firm KP Group, through its subsidiary KPI Green Energy, has signed a $4 billion agreement with the Government of Botswana to develop large-scale renewable energy infrastructure across the country. The initiative is expected to boost Botswana’s renewable energy capacity to nearly 5 gigawatts, supporting national ambitions to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030.
Under the memorandum of understanding, the partnership will focus on power generation, energy storage, and transmission infrastructure. Key components include upgrading high-voltage transmission lines, developing cross-border interconnections with neighboring countries, and creating a framework to plan and implement renewable projects at scale. The projects aim to position Botswana as a regional clean energy hub.
Botswana’s Minister of Minerals and Energy, Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, described the agreement as a critical step toward a sustainable and secure energy future. KP Group will oversee development, financing, construction, and long-term operations while also offering 30 annual scholarships to build local skills in renewable energy and engineering.
