THE TWILIGHT WITH MATHIAS (12 NOVEMBER 2025)
When I walk through the streets of our country — through the markets, the dusty roads, and the busy city corners — I often find myself asking one question: Where are the owners?
Where are the people who should be shaping, building, and owning this nation — not just in words, but in action? I look around and see our fellow Namibians, our fellow Africans, struggling to survive while others who came from elsewhere are thriving. I see foreign-owned businesses blossoming in our towns, while many of our own people are sitting idle, waiting for help, or begging at supermarket doors.
It pains me deeply, not because I am jealous of others’ success, but because I know that we too have the same potential, the same strength, and the same ability to build our future. Yet, somewhere along the way, we have lost something — a sense of ownership, pride, and determination. This essay is not about blaming anyone; it is about asking tough questions and calling for an awakening.
We cannot continue walking through life as if the future will fix itself. It will not. We are the future. And until we rise to take ownership — of our thoughts, our actions, our economy, our education, our leadership, and our unity — we will remain spectators in a game played on our own field.
