At times one sits down and wonders: how do contrabands manage to reach our markets without being detected? Who is watching out for consumers — and are today’s protections enough? In Namibia, a wide range of goods are considered contraband — from skin-lightening products to certain types of footwear and well-known brand imitations. Some of these items arrive in large shipping containers, only to be confiscated later from shops and street vendors. This raises a troubling question: does it mean someone, somewhere along the line, is not doing their job?
