Inonge Mutwa, a dedicated farmer who has conducted extensive research on garlic cultivation and completed various courses to enhance her expertise, has the ambition to become Namibia’s first commercial garlic producer on a national scale.
In a recent interview with Eagle FM, Mutwa shared her motivation for entering the garlic production sector. She highlighted the high demand for garlic, which is often overlooked, resulting in missed opportunities for many aspiring producers.
“We import tons of garlic from abroad, which is why garlic in stores is often expensive; it’s not locally produced. I aim to change this narrative by producing garlic for my own community and training others with the necessary skills to embark on this venture,” she stated.
She further questioned, “If other countries can produce garlic in large quantities, why can’t Namibia do the same?”
