1. Namibia ranks 136 on the global Human Development Index (HDI) in 2025. The HDI is a composite index that measures the average achievement in three basic dimensions of human development – a long and healthy life, knowledge and a decent standard of living.

2. Namibia continues to make strong strides in the fight against tuberculosis (TB), with the Ministry of Health and Social Services reporting substantial progress through the National TB and Leprosy Programme.
According to the Minister of Health, the country achieved a treatment success rate of 88% for drug-susceptible TB cases in 2024—just shy of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) 90% target. For drug-resistant TB, the treatment success rate reached 74%, Dr. Nunurai Ruswa, National TB and Leprosy Programme.

3. The Government of the Republic of Namibia, in collaboration with the Sam Nujoma Foundation, is calling on all citizens to plant trees throughout the month of May in remembrance of the Founding President, Dr Sam Nujoma.
This nationwide initiative coincides with the celebration of Dr Nujoma’s birthday on 12 May and aims to honour his legacy through a symbolic and environmentally meaningful gesture.

4. The Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) hosted a meet and greet event last weekend with the Ministry of Edecation, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, along side various sports federation representatives at the Palm Olive hotel in Windhoek.
Education and Sports Minister Sanet Steenkamp, emphasisied the importance of collaboration between federations and government to achieve their shared goals.
