In 2021 a picture of a Japanese track and field athlete Nozomi Tanaka went viral when a Japanese flag on her outfit was substituted with a Zimbabwean flag and the outfit made to look like she was representing Zimbabwe.
Most Africans went ballistic before finding out it was all fake.

What lesson does this teach us on how to best handle identity politics on an ever merging world?
