The Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism has said Namibia urgently needs approximately N$112.3 billion by 2030 to execute a 91% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
Of this substantial sum, N$65.2 billion is earmarked for mitigation measures, while N$47.1 billion is allocated for adaptation targets.
However, despite these pressing needs, Namibia’s blended finance infrastructure fund remains devoid of contributions crucial for implementing the necessary actions.
This absence of financial support jeopardises the country’s endeavours in combating climate change.
Former President Hage Geingob disclosed this revelation during COP28 last year, where he appealed for N$278 billion to realise Namibia’s Nationally Determined Contributions.
