In an bid to understand the daily realities of Katutura’s informal settlements, particularly among scrap metal collectors, a group of researchers embarked on a journey of observation and investigation.

For these collectors, every day is a precarious balance between having enough to eat and going hungry.

They traverse long and rugged paths within Windhoek’s borders, their success reliant on a keen business sense akin to that of a market researcher.

They must discern which discarded scraps hold value and which do not, as their livelihoods hinge on this distinction.
