Developmental projects under implementation in Namibia with the help of the German government are expected to remain unaffected amid diplomatic tensions between the two states.

President Hage Geingob recently criticised Germany’s decision to support Israel in the ongoing genocide case at the International Criminal Court of Justice (ICJ), citing the country’s “remaining debt” from the genocide it committed on Namibian soil.

Economic relations between Namibia and Germany are deep rooted and have been strengthened through various initiatives including the recent commitments towards the development of the green hydrogen projects in Namibia.

Information provided by the German embassy in Namibia shows that since Independence in 1990, Germany has invested approximately N$32.3 billion in Namibia through various projects.

Since last year, the embassy said, Germany’s Development Bank, KfW, has been managing a portfolio of 36 active projects valued at N$12.9 billion, with 22 projects valued at N$6.6 billion in progress.
