Minister of Trade and Industrialisation, Lucia Iipumbu, says Namibians should start working together by forming joint ventures to be able to compete in various sectors of the economy as opposed to complaining about foreign encroachment.

Iipumbu says joint ventures are the best way to strengthen local businesses and scale up competition against foreign entities – in most cases equipped with expertise, experience and capital.

Her ministry, Iipumbu said, has already been working to create an enabling environment for Namibian businesses to participate in various sectors of the economy.

This includes reviewing the necessary policies and legal framework to enhance Namibian participation.

“We are making interventions in terms of the policy and legal framework to make sure that we ‘Namibianise’ some of these sectors and bring everybody on board,” she emphasised.
