After a year of scrutiny by the Minister of Labour, the recommendations for the National Minimum Wage (NMW) have taken a significant step forward, moving to the Labour Advisory Council for further consideration.
The proposed national minimum wage of N$18 per hour, aims to address critical objectives, including enhancing compensation for low-paid workers, lifting individual and household incomes, reducing poverty, and promoting a more equitable standard of living.
At a recent congress of the Namibia Food and Allied Workers Union (Nafau) in Rietfontein, Minister of Labour, Utoni Nujoma revealed that he has submitted recommendations on the national minimum wage to the Labour Advisory Council.
“I am pleased to inform you that I sent to the Labour Advisory Council last month the report of the Wages Commission, supplemented by an ILO feasibility study and recommendations, on the introduction of the National Minimum Wage,” said Nujoma.
