The Green Hydrogen Commissioner James Mnyupe has underscored the importance of Namibia focusing on the secondary sector to create more employment opportunities.

The secondary sector encompasses industries such as manufacturing, which transform natural resources and raw materials into artificial resources and human-created objects for consumption.

Mnyupe highlighted that Namibia currently places more emphasis on the primary sector, primarily involving the extraction of raw materials.

However, he noted that the primary sector is subject to fluctuations, making it less reliable for stable government income in the future.

The commissioner shared these insights during a media engagement held in Windhoek on Monday.

“To achieve this, we need new engines of growth, new businesses, and new industries. We cannot rely solely on uranium, fish, and gold, as these are all components of the primary sector. We need to transition into manufacturing,” Mnyupe emphasised.
