The President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, has announced his intention to terminate the participation of Gabon, Niger, Uganda, and the Central African Republic in the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) trade program.
This decision comes in the wake of reported “gross violations” of internationally recognised human rights by the Central African Republic and Uganda.
President Biden further cited the failure of Niger and Gabon to establish or sustain progress towards protecting political pluralism and the rule of law as the basis for his decision.
