The Windhoek Municipality will require an annual budget of between N$15 million to N$20 million to electrify 4,000 households over the next five years.
This was announced by Windhoek’s Deputy Mayor, Magdalena Lombardt, during the inauguration of the Informal Areas Electrification Project – Otjomuise Ext. 6 & 7 – Phase II.
Lombardt revealed that municipal councillors are actively engaging with various potential financial institutions to secure grant funding for electrification initiatives.
She also confirmed the approval of a revised 5-Year Electrification Plan that will guide the implementation of electrification projects for the next five years (2023-2028).
The target for this period is approximately 4,000 households.
The City of Windhoek initiated electrification efforts in informal settlements around the city during the 2017/2018 financial year.
