Michael Amushelelo

Law enforcement agents in collaboration with court officials blocked the media from attending court proceedings of forex traders Michael Amushelelo and Gregorie Cloete in Windhoek on Monday.

Amushelelo and Cloete appeared in court facing fraud and money laundering charges. Amushelelo was arrested in Windhoek on Thursday last week, while Cloete was picked up later.

They were each released on N$35 000 bail with conditions that they should surrender their passports, that they may not apply for new passports, may not interfere with witnesses, that they report to the police thrice a week and may not leave the district of Windhoek without authorisation.

A huge number of people attended the court Monday when the two were brought in. As a result, the court officials and the police had to allow family members and close friends to attend.

In the meantime, both the accused will reappear in court in April 2020 while investigations into their case continue.
