BANK of Namibia Governor Johannes !Gawaxab believes rural communities in the country are facing economic distress because they seem to be neglected “and have become zones of economic misery”.
He emphasised the need to revitalise these areas to achieve inclusive development.
He made these remarks during the 24th Annual Symposium of the Bank of Namibia, themed “Transformation of the Rural Economy in Namibia.”
!Gawaxab pointed out that a World Bank study predicts that by 2050, 72% of Namibians will reside in cities, leaving rural areas economically challenged and neglected.
“Namibia’s rural areas seem to have been forgotten and have become zones of economic misery,” !Gawaxab said.
