In the first two quarters of 2023, the Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relation and Employment Creation has registered 10,358 jobseekers, but has only managed to place 613 with employers.
Furthermore, in the six months, designated employers have registered 1,890 vacancies.Additionally, in the last last 3 months of the 6 months, 1,754 employees were dismissed or relieved from seven (7) regions of the country.
The data is based on registrations done by both the jobseekers and designated employerson the Namibia Integrated Employment Information System (NIEIS).
The data shows that 5,866women have registered on the system compared to 4,492 men for the six months.
Khomas region followed by Erongo have recorded more jobseekers on the system – two regions with a high concentration of industries and economic activities.
Khomas region registered 1,305 jobseekers followed by Erongo with 1,015.
The regions with the lowest number of jobseekers registered are Omaheke with 53; Kunene and Otjozondjupa both with 138; and Hardap with 152.
In the first three months of 2023, 5,391 job seekers were registered, of which 5,010 did not have jobs, while the remainder had jobs but were looking for greener pastures.
Only 19 of the jobseekers registered are people with disabilities between January and March 2023.
About 284jobseekers registered during the period have auniversity degree and 19 postgraduate qualifications, followed by 795with certificates/diplomas.
The number of jobseekers with a junior secondary education are 1,873 and those with a senior secondary education 1,614,with 390 having a primary education and 35 no formal education.
For the first three months, 921vacancies were reported either online or through manual notification.
The majority of vacancies reported were in the Khomas (235), followed by Erongo (202).
Most of the vacancies reported were in agriculture and forestry (180), followed by public administration, defence and social sector (94),and education (90).
During Q1 2023, only352 jobseekers were placed from a totasl of 5,391. Out of this number, 184are female and 168males, with agriculture having the most jobseekers placed (156), followed by fisheries (79), construction (54), and public administration, defence and social security (33).
Furthermore, the majority of the job seekers placed during the first quarter of 2023 had a junior secondary education (182), followed by senior secondary (84), primary education (60), no–formal education (12), and certificate/diploma (8).
For Q2 2023, a total of 4,967 jobseekers were registered whereby 2,143 are men and 2,824 women.Khomas region registered the majority of jobseekers (1,160) followed by Erongo (592).
The regions with the lowest number of jobseekers registered are Kunene (60), Ohangwena (72), Zambezi (117), Kavango West (146), and Oshikoto (157).
Out of the total number of jobseekers registered in Q2 2023, 4,750 were unemployed while 217 were employed. Only 38 registeredare people with disabilities.
In terms of age, most of the job seekers registered (1,352) are between the ages of 25- 29, followed by the 30-34 age bracket (968), and 20-24 (935). This picture is the same as in Q1 2023.
Furthermore, most of the unemployed jobseekers registered during this period attained junior secondary education (1 681) followed by senior secondary education (1 495), Certificate /diploma (861), primary education (313), University degree (311), no formal education (68), and (21) post-graduate.
During Q2 2023), a total number of 969 vacancies were reported to the Employment Services Bureau for recruitment purposes. During the quarter, 89 Designated Employers (DEs) and Training Institutions were registered on the NIEIS .
Most DEs were registered in Khomas (46), followed by Erongo (21) and Omaheke (7). Email: erastus@thevillager.com.na
